Some avid computer users may still remember floppy disks. The ironically hard plastic memory disks that were inserted into the floppy disk drive. Floppy Disks were used up until the mid 2000’s, with their use slowly decreasing over the decade.
Floppy disks are still used for booting older operating systems like Windows XP. But as many PCs no longer eve have a floppy disk drive, the use of the aged floppy disk has diminished.
Could we see a resurgence though? Well it’s highly unlikely. As data storage technology surges ahead, old ways of holding data are simply discarded. Remembered only by older PC users and on IT blogs.
They will not be forgotten though. Legendary PC games like Monkey Island and X-Wing were published on floppy disks. It will be hard for many to just forget the memories of loading save files and making backups on the old floppy disks.
