The role of a server administrator carries a great deal of responsibility. The administrator maintains the working heart, of what could be a large businesses entire IT infrastructure. Because of this the role requires at the very minimum, adequate knowledge of all of servers systems.
A sure way to maintain success in the server room is knowledge, and the most quantitative way to prove your knowledge is through certification. This post looks some of the certifications that are essential for a server administrator.
Some of the recommended certifications include; a server+ certification followed by several certification exams (70-215), these cover installing, configuring, and administering servers; as well as exam 70-290, which covers managing and maintaining a server environment.
One of the most important things to remember however, is that when learning the material try to learn to understand the administrator’s role, rather than simply learning to pass the exam.
