IT in schools: How it’s changed

Back in the 1990s most schools would have an ‘IT guy’ who would occasionally bring out the TV, set up the projector, fix the printer or remove a virus from a computer. Nowadays that has changed completely. Schools require a dedicated team of IT specialists who look after the school’s server, ensure security is up to speed, manage hundreds if not thousands of computers and tablets and ensure all of the devices are updated and managed accordingly. IT has grown and developed over the last couple of decades, and we’re now in an age where it’s extremely important to the day to day running of the school. Children also know more about computers, sometimes more than the teachers, and that can mean kids are ever so frustrated at how slow the teacher is when doing basic tasks. This can of course be humorous, but it just goes to show how much the world has changed, and it’s especially the case for school IT departments.
